Our Founder
Understanding the Rental Challenges in Singapore
As a realtor in Singapore for almost 2 decades, our founder Herbert Benard saw firsthand the struggles that tenants faced when trying to find affordable, convenient housing. Time and again,
his clients – often relocation companies, MNCs, or even
young professionals and students new to the city – would come to him for help in finding a more affordable and
sustainable leasing option.
The problems were numerous: Skyrocketing rents, extremely
competitive markets, and a severe shortage of available
units. Even when they did find a place, the process of vetting potential roommates, dividing expenses, and setting ground rules was daunting.
Far too many ended up in living situations
that were less than ideal.

After being approached by a few organisations to help solve
their accommodation problems, That’s when the idea for
Roomie was born. Herbert envisioned a platform that could
revolutionise the rental experience – making it faster, easier,
and more harmonious for tenants to find their perfect home

but also provide the tools and guidance to help those
